Welcome to Ras Kitao, Lamu

Be Inspired by our history

In bygone days, when majestic elephants and other wild creatures would roam the Lamu mainland, they would cross the ocean at low tide and make their way to Ras Kitao. Here, they would wallow and drink in the wetland that lies where the house currently stands.
This special place was known as Ziwa la Ndovu. Today, although we no longer have the majestic elephants or the wetland, we still hold the memory of the land in our hearts, and we keep the name Ziwa la Ndovu ( Elephants Pond) alive.
Ziwa la Ndovu needs to be experienced to be believed! Located just steps away from the fantastic sandy beach of the Ras Kitao on the South West side of Manda. The villa is spread over a huge plot of land and offers a sublime blend of Swahili architecture and modern interiors.

Heritage Sites

Lamu Old Town, established as a prominent trade hub in the 14th century, holds the distinction of being the oldest and most well-preserved Swahili settlement in East Africa. The Takwa Ruins, constructed in the 16th century, were once a bustling trading center comparable in size to the Pate Old City. Today, however, the town lays in a state of disrepair and has been reduced to ruins.
